About the Place

In 2015, the United World College of South-East Asia (UWCSEA) embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment plan for its Dover Campus, located at 1207 Dover Road, Singapore 139654. This initiative aimed to modernize the campus facilities to better support the institution's educational objectives and sustainability commitments.

Key Components of the Redevelopment:

  • High School Block Construction: A significant aspect of the project was the construction of a new High School block. This facility was designed to house High School classrooms, administrative offices, a library and study center, examination hall, drama studios, a black box theatre, and a large conference center. The building also features a two-story Heritage Café, serving as a communal space for students, staff, and visitors.

  • Sustainable Design Features: In line with UWCSEA's commitment to environmental stewardship, the new buildings were constructed to meet BCA Green Mark Platinum standards, the highest rating in Singapore's green building certification. Sustainable features incorporated into the design include:

    • Energy-Efficient Air Conditioning: The campus implemented a central chilled water plant room and air handling infrastructure, achieving an overall cooling load of 79.83 W/m² for the 46,522 square meters of cooled space.

    • Innovative Space Utilization: The "3for2" design concept was introduced, constructing three floors in the space typically required for two. This approach not only reduced noise and building height but also enhanced energy efficiency by eliminating ceiling-incorporated infrastructure.

    • Solar Energy Initiatives: The "Solar for Dover" project, inspired by a Grade 5 student initiative, led to the installation of over 1,905 solar panels across four locations on campus. These panels collectively produce approximately 734,777 kWh of electricity annually, offsetting up to 14% of the school's annual electricity consumption and reducing CO₂ emissions by 307 tonnes.
